Grand Forks Employment: A Road to Where?

I had to finish the statistics and report for a grant project so there was a break from the blogging. Now that the Cubs are actually playing meaningful baseball in October I am not sure how often I will get back to this, but I will try. I mentioned this graph recently when talking with local business people and thought I would replicate it here.

It really seems that we are spinning our wheels to some extent in Grand Forks. The average year-over-year percentage change in employment is 0.14% over the last ten years. As you can see a significant chunk of this time was below the zero line. We had policy initiatives in this time frame, but nothing seemed to gain traction and a permanent foothold.

And here we are now back to the zero line. Nobody has answers for me why this is the case so I have to investigate further. Let you know what I find.
